The Road to Running Revisited - Agian

Ok The snow is gone (that is until the Freek snow storm in April everyone keeps talking about). So I went out looking for something to get me going and I found this - Podrunner

I just downloaded and did the first run. All I can say is wow! The beat really kept me going and even though I only did one interval of running the walking part was enough. So today I walked 35 minutes and I am going out later I'll clock how far I went. But it is a start And even though I haven't done that much walk/running since Aug when I move from Va this is a start. I prob. won't make it to run in the 4th of July run. But I am sure I'll be able to run 13.1 by the end of the year and that was my goal anyway.

Update I went to this site http://www.mapmyrun.com/create iand it told me that my walk/run today was 2 miles. WOW that is more than I did in Va. wooo wooo!

The Road to Running-Revisited

Well I am back on my own again able to move forward on my road to running. It is supposed to get above freezing today but the rest of the week hummmm just not sure.

This is from the cities Parks and Rec website
"Now that the weather is getting colder and the mornings are dark, all you early morning walkers can get out of the cold and stay with the program. The Auxiliary Gym will be open weekday mornings for walking from 5:30 – 6:30 a.m. on days when school is in session. Call Parks and Recreation at ***-**** for more information."

So I think I'll call them and find out more. I wish I had a tread mill and a place to put it.

The Road to Running Again

cough cough what's that. hummmmmm so I'm trying! I could be better. I am having to do this stuff on the tread mill I am walking and running for 20mins. When I was on my own walking the streets of my neighborhood my 20 mins was a mile. My tread mill is so old it doesn't count miles or anything for that matter but I am doing it Forcing myself. I have lost 20lbs since my surgery and I realized I don't want to give that up.

Two of my Greatest Friends just ran Marathons one was a full one and the other a half. I am so happy for them and it reminds me I can do it. I know I can. My goal was to run 13.1 by the end of March 2008 I better get going!

I Have Done it!!!!!!!

Ok I know it's not much in the scheme of things but this is huge week for me. When I first started walking 8 weeks ago. I had just been given the ok from my Doc. So I started to walk. At first it was just one block that is all I could do. After having medical problems for 20 years I am very happy with that. Then 8 weeks later I am walking a mile! My timing for this week has been shot I had guest walkers with me a few day and then the timer stopped working. So today when I go walking it will be timed! I am looking forward to it!

Time: 1 mile 23:31 - Not Bad at all esp for the fact than when I started I did .3 mile in 10 minutes and .5 miles in 16 minutes Good Good Good!

Next: Week 9
Start following this program by Jeff Galloway. It will be slightly changed because my rest day is on Sunday.

Hot Weather

Walking in hot weather is not fun! This week there was a day I could not walk more than one block . It was so humid that it was hard to breathe. So next week it's back to getting out of the house by 6am. You know that sounds bad but I have gotten a lot of work done around here when I get going.

50th post with update!

Can you believe it 50 POSTS!

This week I brought my distance up. I am now walking 2 blocks which is .5 miles. That's not much. The goal is to go for 30 min at a brisk pace. My time this week is around 16 minutes. That puts my one block up to 8 minutes, which last week I did it in 7. So is this a good thing? I think so when I first started a month ago I did one block in 10 mins and I was DONE. Now I am walk two blocks (.5 mile) I think I am getting somewhere.

I feel stronger. There is the fact that earlier this year my Iron levels where so low that I fainted while I was standing up. In January I couldn't even walk from my kitchen to my bedroom with out having to sit down for a bit. I can't believe how well I am feeling now. To think I have been dealing with this for 20 years of my life.

So even though I feel I am only half way to my first goal. I am doing it. I am achieving something I never thought I would.

Next week I'll do even better!

How did I do this week?

Well good and bad. I totally forgot to drink my water. I'm gonna have to be reminded about that one, skicky notes everywhere I think or at least by my computer! As for walking this week I was two seconds from walking my walk in 6.59 mins.

Next week will be my forth week. I think I am going to add a block. Walk a little slower to start out. Even though I have a bunch of little goals to get me going. The first big goal I have is to walk comfortably for 30 mins at a brisk pace. Once I can do that for a week I'll start working on the next goal. I'm getting ahead of myself.

Did I tell you that my son is walking with me? It has been a lot of fun. He is in control of the stop watch. :)

So tomorrow I am walking twice around my block or maybe just walking around two blocks.

Can you believe it!

It has been a week since I last posted and i did it again! I Made my goals for the week!

Yippeee!

I am now down to walking my block from 10 mins to 7mins and 45 sec. So this week I bought a book to record everything and a new pair of shoes. Here is the joys of having very small feet. The Kids section was having a sale and so I got a really cool pair of shoes for dirt cheep and got my son some shoes (which I can now wear as well) for 50% off.

Next weeks goals is to push a little more to get closer to the 5 min mark and drink the right amount of water for my weight daily.

Walkin'

So I did it! I made my first goal. To walk around the block Monday through Saturday. Walking in the summer I think will really help. I really want to start walking but, some mornings this week I haven't wanted to get out of bed. I knew though that if I didn't, I would pay for it later. So the choice this week was walk in 70 degrees before 7am or walk in 90 degrees (or 100) later. I choose the first choice and went walking before 7am most mornings.

So there is my first success. I am looking forward to next week. I'll let you know how I did.

Start by Walking.

So I have truly started. I have felt better than I have in 20 years. So I am starting on my goals.

Jeff Galloway says start by walking

"Everyone needs to feel comfortable and successful right from the start. Begin by walking for 30 minutes. Keep doing this until it feels easy."

So this is my plan start walking 30mins Monday through Saturday. I walk slow, it is a start right. I think though that it is not just walking that I am doing it is developing a habit. It's a habit I haven't been able to do since i was a teen.

So here I go!

My Process

For twenty years I have been dealing with a heath problem that has given me challenges. I am on the road to recovery. This year I am hoping to fulfill a few life time goals.

Maybe if I write them here I can have a place just to record my process.

Due to my surgery I cannot exercise until I am released. So this week I am going to due the following:

1. Take time for the Lord. Through him all things can be realized
2. Make a meal plan and stick to it. Two of my sisters do this and I promised my husband that I would too.
3. Read Dr Bridell's logical and rational & poetic and beautiful & completely guaranteed Diet
4. Read Jeff Galloway's Before Those First Steps!
5. Relax

Well these are my goals! I report on how I did next week
